Scott Bridge Company, Inc.'s roots date back to 1933 when Mr. I. J. Scott (Jud) and two partners formed Scott Construction Company in Thomasville, Georgia, constructing many highways, airports, bridges, and dams in the Southeast. Mr. Scott left this firm in 1957 and formed his own company, The Scott Company, in Opelika, Alabama, his home. The Scott Company incorporated in 1965 as Scott Bridge Company with I. J. Scott and his son, I. J. Scott, Jr. Also in 1965 Mr. Gerard Swarthout came to the company, became company president, and retired in 1987.
Scott Bridge Company has been a member of the Alabama Road Builders since 1947, and became known as a river bridge contractor, completing many projects on the Warrior, Alabama, Coosa, Tennessee, and Chattahoochee Rivers.
Currently Mr. I. J. Scott's grandsons, I. J. Scott, III (Ike), President, William Scott, Vice President and David Scott, Board Member, own and continue to further the principles and traditions of their father and grandfather before them.
--TYNDALL AIR FORCE BASE--MANDATORY BACKGROUND CHECK
This position is accountable for operation of several different kinds of equipment, such as forklift, excavator, frontend loader, man lift, bull dozier, ect. The incumbent assists other crafts by hoisting heavy equipment, moving machinery, and performing dirt work. The position reports to the Project Foreman and supports construction projects at Scott Bridge Company, Inc. various jobsites.
•Works closely with the Foreman and others at the project to support construction operations.
•Operates forklifts up to 20, 000 lb. capacity hydraulic dozers up to Caterpillar D7 or equivalent, hydraulic man lifts up to 80 feet, and hydraulic maintainers up to Caterpillar 140G pr equivalent.
•Operates tractors equipped with attachments such as but not limited to backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers/brush hogs and concrete breakers.
•Operates various other types of stationary hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical or other mechanically powered lifts for the purpose of inspection, testing and repairs.
•Performs rigging and flagging when required for special lifts.
•Performs equivalent inspections for operational and safety integrity.
•Performs minor maintenance of and to all equipment operated including lubricating, replacing cables and chains, replacing hooks and safety latches, adjusting linkages and tightening hoses.
•Coordinates project work with various work crew groups.
•Complies with all safety rules and reports all incidents and events to immediate supervision for corrective action.
•Attends all departmental safety meetings and actively supports and participates in safety programs and implementations.
•Complies with all Scott Bridge Company policies, procedures and practices that are applicable to ensuring safe, efficient equipment operation.
•Participates in various company and regulatory training designed to improve overall productivity and complete projects on time and under budget.
•Participants in Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.
A minimum of two (2) years heavy equipment operations experience is required. Prior experience must include, being knowledgeable in the safe operation of various types of heavy equipment including forklifts, hydraulic dozers, hydraulic manlifts, hydraulic maintainers, backhoes, front-end loaders, mowers/brush hogs and concrete breakers in a chemical process manufacturing environment. Must also be knowledgeable of corporate safety rules and regulations and emergency response requirements.
